Gakhal-Surjit National Sports Day Hockey Tournament from Aug 27

• Jalandhar, Aug 17 ( ): The first Gakhal-Surjit National Sports Day Hockey Tournament will be played from August 27 here at the local Surjit Hockey Stadium, Burlton Park. According to Iqbal Singh Sandhu, CEO of Surjit Hockey Society that National Sports Day is celebrated on August 29 every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of Indian hockey legend late Olympian Major Dhyan Chand. On this occasion, the first Gakhal-Surjit National Sports Day Hockey Tournament will be held from October 27 to 29, 2023 at local Surjit Hockey Stadium, Burlton Park. According to working president of the society, Lakhwinder Pal Singh Khaira & L.R. Nayyar that this three-day tournament will be played on a 'five-a-side pattern' in boys and girls’ categories. In boy’s category, Jalandhar-XI, Round Glass Hockey Academy, Surjit Hockey Academy, Shrey Hockey, Jalandhar, Alfa Hockey Jalandhar Whereas Rail Coach Factory, Kaparthala, Jalandhar-XI, CRPF, Lyallpur Khalsa Women's College, Surjit Hockey Academy and Round Glass Hockey Academy will participate in the girls category. The main sponsor of this tournament will be America's eminent transporter, sports promoter Amolak Singh Gakhal, known as Gakhal Brothers of USA, who gives a Cash prize of 5.00 lakhs to the winning team of Surjit Hockey Tournament every year, will also be the main sponsor of this tournament. The National Sports Day is to promote sports activities in the country. Both the final matches of this tournament will be played under flood lights, Khaira added.
